昨日は私の感想、報告でしたが、今日は子どもたちの言葉を載せたいと思います

今回参加してくださった子たちは３年生２人５年生９人でした。
次、学校の振替休日、または土曜日の午前中に予定できれば企画したいです。ご希望（曜日、時間、内容、なんでもけっこです）があればぜひとも聞かせて下さい。コメントまたはメールでどうぞ。


大人の方でヨガをやってみたい人、いろんなスタイルのヨガがあって、また同じスタイルも教室によってかなり違います。
私自身もいろんな教室、いろんなスタイル経験していますし、いままでやったヨガで本当に恵まれてきたと思います。

そこで、今日は一つだけすごくお勧めしたいものはあります。
それはエアーリアルヨガです。
やー、本当はあまりお勧めするのも心配です。それは先生が忙しくなりすぎると私も困るからです。
でも、今５ヶ月親子で毎週やってきているエアーリアルヨガですごい成果が出ています。興味があるかたはゆかこ先生のホームページを覗いてみるのが良いと思います。

３月３０日Kids English Yogaスペシャルイベント開きました。
ご参加された子どもたち、ありがとうございました。

今回は私も英語に訳す、自分の喋るタイミングダイブ掴んで子どもたちは
90分英語のシャワーを浴びました。

面白いことに、その英語シャワーにほとんど気づかず、英語は全く難しいと感じなくて、ヨガのポーズばっかりが難しかったようです。

私もたくさん感じたイベントでしたが短く表すと：

ヨガみたいな活動は子どもたちが本当に必要としていると思います。海外では学校のカリキュラムに含まれている国も多いですが、日本こそ：
「能力、協力、努力、評価」ばっかり言わないで、ヨガのポーズで学べることを少し大事しにして、教育に加えると良いです。
「体育」の一部としてではなくて、授業スタート、またはテスト前などに少しでもやれば集中、勉強の効果が期待できると思っています。

ちょっとしたコツで同じ"Hands up"はこんなに姿勢が変わります。


今回も前回の親子ヨガと同じく、Eric Carleの"Draw me a star"という絵本を選びました。

Starposeはみんな英語のレッスンからも慣れていますがとても好きで、指導しなくてもちゃんとした呼吸で笑いながらやっています。
やっぱり星は想像しやすいと同時に、届かない、不思議なものでありますよね。本当に子供の心くすぐるものです。

英語のレッスンも和室で行って良く床に座ったりしています。
そこで「自然と良い姿勢で座れる、立てる子がほとんどいません」と気づいて、子どもたちにヨガを経験してほしい一歩目でした。

今回は少しだけの指導、コツ、イメージで姿勢を治せた子もいますがなかなかそれが難しい子も数名いました。
これは運動神経や器用さ関係がなく体は固くて腹筋が弱くて体の他のところで無理しているように思えました。

教え合う

いろんな学年が同時に工作レッスンが行うと普段見られない姿が見られます。
助け合う！手伝ってもらう！そこで今までなかった自信が生まれます。どの写真見ても素敵です！

実はわたしは子供のころからイースターが大好き。１０代の頃はクリスマスよりもずっと好きでした。
今年もみんなと楽しいレッスンできて嬉しいです。ありがとう！

​去年もイースターについていろいろ説明のブログを書きましたので、今年はリンク貼り付けます。

さて、本教室での予定は今年どうなっていますか？

昨日は小学校６年生の卒業祝いの企画もあって、朝から一先ず農協で春の木の枝を買いに行って、玄関先を飾りました：

午後は年初組が初めてのイースタ体験でシンプルな工作レッスンしました。

画用紙の卵で織物。
over, underというのはやったことない子にとって非常に難しいです。また次の行は反対になるとHELP!!!
澪も手伝ってくれたおかげで私も大助かりでした。

次はゆで卵に食紅のマーカで絵を描きました。
「春らしく！」というのは子供にとって「卵らしく！」だったようです：
​わざわざ白っぽい卵を用意したのは茶色や黄色に塗り尽くしたり、面白かったです！

最後はみんな大満足。良く１時間集中してたくさんつくりました。

さて、今日は1, 2年生です。
２時間スペシャルで３点作ってもらいます。

Dacha commented on last week's blog and asked:

 I see in the last scene that you have all the kids on stage, but in between performances are by age/level group. Do you calculate in any way how much time for each group of students (total): 1 or 2 skits per group or something like that? I see that you've used a theme- a central topic to unify everything- "Aladdin". Why did you choose it? And could you tell us what is your theme this year, please :)?

In Japanese Schools "Tatewari" is very common, and I'am using it for my own school since 2, 3 years.
"Tatewari" kind of translates as "Length cut";  what it means is, that not only the parallel classes (of one grade) exchange and work together, but the classes from the lowest to the highest grade of a school do so.
So if there are  for example 3 parallel classes per grade, for certain occasions 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A mingle and work together and exchange.

I like this idea, because different ages can learn so much from each other.

So, what I do is, I split up the students of my school (about 70) into two groups, length cut.  (So, the group you see in the end altogether on stage is half of the number of my students, not all of them)

This way, I have about 35 kids  between 5 and 12year olds in each group.

For the same age group I use the same topics, skits, songs to play.
This is very time saving for me, as with 8 classes I would need 8 topics for a performance, if I'd have them all go on stage in one session.
But this way I need only 4 topics.
Kids and parents from group A come in the morning, B in the afternoon.

Though the parents won't see all of my classes, they see one cycle of ages and a development and contrast between 2nd graders and 3rd graders for example.
They love to see smaller kids, as they are so cute to watch, but they also love to watch older kids, as it gives them an idea of what I am aiming at and where their own kids will be 1, 2, years from now.


I usually do 1 skit per group; a fairytale or a picture book or a project we did so far, as a basic topic.
I write the skits myself (or have the kids create them with my help), and I add lots of songs, dances, traditional handclapping games, etc etc into each skit.

In last years performance you can see we did 
​"Down down baby" handclapping,
"The cup song"
"Marry you" as a dance
etc etc.

As I have 4 classes to perform and I want the show to finish within 90 minutes, including warm-up songs/games WITH the parents, and a bit of talk of my own, I make each skit about 15 minutes.  Younger kids 10, older ones 20 minutes.
Within each skit, I try to get equal performing time per kid;  but some are just not up for this yet, so I push everyone enough to grow beyond where they are now, but softly, not to break down their motivation.

One girl just doesn't want to go on stage right now, so she gets other tasks to do that help everyone, and she is learning with us during class time.

Aladdin:

I must say, I am not such a huge Disney Fan, but I was always fascinated by 1000 and 1 night stories, Sindbad, ...
I find Aladdin very suitable for English lessons as it gets out the creativity of kids, a magic carpet a magic lamp, flying around the world and watching different countries.  So,  I've always used it for crafts and projects.  It is just beautiful and simple.

For example I had them draw a magic carpet (via a special technique), that would take them to Russia and France, because we were exchanging with  kids there,  via video letter and Skype.

Also, I often do popular songs with the kids in between, me playing the guitar.  "A whole new world" has been very popular since many years with my students, so I had had the idea to create a musical.

Last year I looked for some Aladdin readers, and had my kids read it first, then I wrote a script along the story, adding all the music, dances, etc I could think of.

I decided which class should do the Aladdin , and then I tried to adjust a few GE songs so that they would fit the topic and my small kids could join.

This way I could have them exchange not only at the performance but also during class time, watch each other, giving feed back , etc.
It was fun to watch my 5 year olds, who had just started English, laugh about the Genie's poem, understanding what he was saying.

I will write more about this year's topic in another mail, but you can be sure my kids will pioneer some new materials.

まー暇ではないけど、なんだか予定がない。運転免許はとった、髪の毛は染めた、ピアースは開けた、カラオケもけっこ行った、お金ないからバイトしたいけど、先の予定わからないからやっぱり待つか？

ムズムズする時期ですよね。

まず、堅田の人には久しぶりに顔を出してほしいな！

後、英語の本の紹介。
先月安河内先生の授業を受けてきて、かれの考え方とても同感した。
家に帰って、早速安河内先生が高校生向けに書いた）小説を買った。

これは読みやすくて、さらにすごく面白い。
また「生きる」というお話は実話にそって書いてあるから大変お勧め！

今からの英語力は読書で決まるから、ぜひ頑張って欲しい！

やっと明日です！４歳児の新しい教室へ向けての第一ステップ。

「待ちきれない」という声もありましたが、明日はみんな元気に来られるの楽しみにしています。

Well, so far, everything was very simple and easy, and you can limit your preparation for lessons down to the essential and take baby steps from there.

But, honestly, for events, I would lie if I told you it is that easy.
It takes time.
It needs skill.
It needs experience.
It needs responsible people you can get feed back from and juggle around with ideas.

So, again, my only advice here is:  Start small!  and take Baby Steps.
 Let the time and experience teach you and go with this flow.

Let me concentrate on PERFORMANCE today:

I had my first performance of the kids in front of parents more than 10 years ago:  I held it in my house.  About 15 kids and their moms.  They were sitting on floor and sofa~very unprofessional but cozy and unforgettable for the ones who joined.

I did this about 2 times, after that we had a space that was a bit bigger.
30 kids and their moms, a piano and guitar.

Again 2 years later I rented a cafe for about 40-50 kids and it was the first performance with some handmade nice preps, and costumes.

From there I found a big community space for everyone to get to easily;  and I kind of know how to create my program and when to start.

Basically I am just NOW (February) writing down what plays, skits, songs, dances I want to do with each class end of July.
I actually wrote the scripts already and am thinking of who gets what role.

I have my notebook and whenever I notice something or see something that gives me more of an idea for anything concerning the performance I write it down and see how it fits in.

Doing it now, gives me an idea of what topics to cover, still~ and what other skills to pull out.

In April I start with the actual topics they will need for the performance.  I don't want them to get too stressed right before, and in my experience the whole thing will stay longer (for ever) if they have practiced the same sentences for a longer time.
Also I do all the other stuff (Phonics, some new topics and review of GE topics) during that time.

July then is run-through ONLY!  Getting the right expressions, being genki having fun and feeling comfortable with the whole thing.  We also make props here.

春休みまであとわずかですね。

学校では一年の仕上げ、テスト、卒業生を送るに向けての練習、新しい学年へ向けてのドキドキ、不安、子供たちもいろいろ抱えている気がします。

そこで春休み中に子供のヨガ＆英語ワークショップをヨガの先生と一緒に開くことになりました。

先月は親子ワークショップで初めてのコラボでしたが、子供たちはその話を聞いて、使った手書きの教材を見たとたんどの子も「綺麗！」「ヨガしたい！」といったり、レッスンまでの時間の間に今でもその教材を見ながら互いを教えあいこしてポーズを取っています。

参加希望は非常に多いですので、申し込みはお早めに。定員になりましたら締め切らせていただかないといけません。

子供は新しいテーマをやるとき一番先に身につくのは歌です。
楽しみにしているのはゲームです。

でも、そこで止まればただの暗記（楽しい暗記）に成ってしまいます。

私は新しいトピックスをやる時に必ずまずそのテーマを子供たち自身とつなげて、感心を起こします。

例えばスポーツの歌に生徒がやっているスポーツが出てこなくても、生徒の好きなスポーツを加える・入れ替える。

で、その次には常に「今やっているテーマ」と「以前やったテーマ」をどうやってつなげられるか、どうやって実際の自然な環境におけるかと考えて工夫します。
